Tasked with designing a brand identity for a business with a mobile truck that serves as its storefront, it was important to first develop a strong concept. I chose to create a mobile yarn thrift store, called Cast Away (combining the knitting term "cast" with the nomadic and disposable associations aligned with the term "cast away"), that allows people to donate their unused yarn from previous fiber arts projects and take home unique skeins of yarn from other people's stashes. As the business has goals of sustainability and accessibility, I needed to address multiple concepts in its visual identity. I incorporated a multicolored strand of yarn in the logotype to represent the misfit collection of yarn in stock. For the trailer design, I represented different-sized and colored balls of yarn to make the purpose of the business instantly clear. I additionally designed a tote bag, yarn label, and pattern card for the brand. The yarn label is customizable, allowing workers to write in specified qualities of the various amounts and types of yarn they will be receiving. The pattern card shows a stash-busting pattern that uses up scrap pieces of yarn, giving patrons an idea of how they can turn small pieces of yarn into a creation.
