Tasked with creating an innovative way to portray data visually, I wanted to make sure the topic of my data was instantly recognizable and impactful. I sketched different layouts with intention of using a photograph of a child on a device as the base of my design. I received feedback from my peers and created digital sketches of some of my design ideas, and further iterated on one layout that received the most positive feedback. From there, the process involved refining the poster through experimenting with different layouts, colors, patterns, and content until I was satisfied. I titled the piece “Screen Captured” as a play on the term “screen capture,” implying the pictured child is captured by the screen—hence the prison-bar-like vertical beams over his face.
